Chowan Moore Aforo is a social worker, volunteer, mentor, motivational speaker, and lifelong student. I was born in Norfolk, Virginia and have had a very interesting life to sum it all up in a few words. I attended Norfolk State University for three years but eventually graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Social Work. As an intern at FSU, I worked at the Leon County Health Department with a program called Healthy Start. I assisted pregnant women with decision making, counseling and referrals, home and doctor visits, and access to health insurance. After graduation I worked for the Florida Department of Children and Families as an Abuse Registry Counselor. I have also worked at a few other agencies which allowed me to be involved with children, mental health issues, and their families. Currently I have been on a quest to switch up my life and do things that are not etched in stone. I have a desire to perfect old ideas that are not working as well as doing things that have never been done as long as they are positive and helpful to myself and others.

We have been best friends since the first grade and due to family situation we lost contact in high school but managed to reunite during our first week of college-ironically! We have not lost contact since then and we are accustomed to speaking almost every day.

The goal of us working on the same blog is to create awareness for issues that matter most to us as women. We face many challenges and we prefer to blog about our thoughts and experiences to give insight based on our experiences over the years. Our desire is for ourselves and the people around us to NOT die figuratively or literally before they get the chance to truly live.

Living life with a passion for knowing and doing better-that is our common thread at this point. We find ways to bring our ideas together for the purpose of examining thoughts, dilemmas, and solutions.
